This manuscript contains Laurent du Premierfait's translation of Cicero's De Senectute and De Amicitia. It was written around 1470 in Rouen and decorated by an artist of the circle of the Master of the Echevinage of Rouen.

Decoration:
2 large miniatures with large decorated initials and full foliate borders, the first including heraldic arms in the lower margin, in colours and gold, at the beginning of the prologues to the books (ff. 1r, 52r). 1 smaller miniature with full foliate borders, in colours and gold, at the end of the prologue for the beginning of the book which follows on the next page (f. 4r). Large and small initials in gold on red and blue grounds. Cadels, many including human heads. Capital letters highlighted in yellow.

Provenance:
Jean II de Hangest (d. 1490), seigneur de Genlis, bailli of Evreux and later Rouen: his arms (f. 1r).
The Harley Collection, formed by Robert Harley (b. 1661, d. 1724), 1st earl of Oxford and Mortimer, politician, and Edward Harley (b. 1689, d. 1741), 2nd earl of Oxford and Mortimer, book collector and patron of the arts.
Edward Harley bequeathed the library to his widow, Henrietta Cavendish, née Holles (b. 1694, d. 1755) during her lifetime and thereafter to their daughter, Margaret Cavendish Bentinck (b. 1715, d.1785), duchess of Portland; the manuscripts were sold by the Countess and the Duchess in 1753 to the nation for £10,000 (a fraction of their contemporary value) under the Act of Parliament that also established the British Museum; the Harley manuscripts form one of the foundation collections of the British Library.
