Kitab-i Remel - كتاب رمل
- Scope & Content:
-
This volume contains a book of remel, the science of divining through the use of dots. Its arrangement is largely similar to the text found in Harley MS 262.
In a preface, the book is said to have been written for Hārūn al-Rashīd by 12 sages selected out of twelve thousand, and to comprise 144 bab, distributed under the twelves signs of the Zodiac, beginning with Cancer.
The bablar are not numbered, but the headings of the first 142 correspond, in spite of verbal differences, to those found in Harley MS 262. The text is otherwise imperfect at the beginning and on ff 75 and 76.
There is considerable discolouration caused by damp.
The manuscript was likely copied in the 17th century.
