ff. 1r-4r: Coats of arms of Keniths nobility and gentry (6 per page).
ff. 9r-40r: Collection of genealogies of Kentish families, with the signature of Robert Cook (d. 1593), Clarenceux King of Arms on f. 28r; but clearly a copy [see the date 1615 on f. 37r].
ff. 40-42r. An alphabetical index of family names.
ff. 43r-60r: Collection of coats of arms of Kentish nobility and gentry (16 per page), beginning with those of King James.
The manuscript contains a later addition:
ff. 1r-1v, 76r-76v: Fragments from a 15th-century liturgical manuscript, perhaps a Pontifical (e.g. 'Et tradat eis episcopus librum , in quo scripti sunt exorcismi'); with champ initials (gold letters in blue and purple frames), small blue initials with red penwork decoration.
Decoration:
Coats of arms and crests, tricked, drawn in black ink. ff. 4v-8r and ff. 60v-75v contains outlines of scutcheons that have been left empty.

Materials: Paper; parchment (only ff. 1, 76).
Dimensions: 295 x 185 mm.
Foliation: ff. 1* + 76 (+ 3 unfoliated paper flyleaves at the beginning + 4 at the end); ff. 1* and 76 are parchment leaves from another manuscript that were reused as flyleaves or binding materials [f. 1 has folded parchment sides that may have been used for an upper cover] for this manuscript; 1 unfoliated paper pastedown on f. 1*recto (a pressmark: ‘83’); ff. 32 and 33 both are part of a single script of paper that has been mounted separately.
Collation: Each leaf has been mounted separately onto a paper guard.
Script: 17th-century script.
Binding: British Museum in-house; re-bound on 18 July 1968. According to the Catalogue of the Harleian Manuscripts (1808), III, p. 304, the manuscript was bound together with Harley MS 5843 in the Harleian Library.

Provenance:
Richard Kimbe (fl. early 17th century), arms painter: his name inscribed on f. 1*recto: ‘Richard Kimbe’ (see Wright, Fontes Harleiani (1972), pp. 209-210).
The Harley Collection, formed by Robert Harley (b. 1661, d. 1724), 1st earl of Oxford and Mortimer, politician, and Edward Harley (b. 1689, d. 1741), 2nd earl of Oxford and Mortimer, book collector and patron of the arts.
Edward Harley bequeathed the library to his widow, Henrietta Cavendish, née Holles (b. 1694, d. 1755) during her lifetime and thereafter to their daughter, Margaret Cavendish Bentinck (b. 1715, d. 1785), duchess of Portland; the manuscripts were sold by the Countess and the Duchess in 1753 to the nation for £10,000 (a fraction of their contemporary value) under the Act of Parliament that also established the British Museum; the Harley manuscripts form one of the foundation collections of the British Library.
