ff. 1r-46r: Various pedigrees of English families, including ‘A Genealogicall History of the very Ancient and Worshipfull Family of Hereford of Hereford’ (ff. 14r-19r); ‘A Coppy of the Register of the Parish of Mordiford in the County of Hereford’ (ff. 40r-40v); ‘A Coppy of the Register of Dormington in the County of Hereford of the Family of Hereford’ (f. 41r); ‘A Coppy of the Regester of St Martins Parish in the Subburbs of Hereford’ (f. 42r);
The manuscript contains a few later additions:
f. 40v: A note dated to 15 October 1716: ‘I Silvester Woodhill Rector of the parish of Mordeford having examined and compared the christenings, marriages and burials before mentioned in this paper do hereby testify that the same is a true copy of the Registry of the parish of Mordeford, witness my hand the day and year above written – Silvester Woodhill Rector […]’.
f. 42r: A note dated to 29 October 1716: ‘I have examined and compared this with the true Register and find itt to be a true Coppie witness my hand – George Parry Churchwarden’.
f. 43r: A note dated to 26 October 1716: ‘I Francis Broade Prebendary of the Cathedral Church of Hereford Portionary of Bromyard and Rector of Stoke-Lacey doe attest this to be a true Copey of the attested Pedigree that was accepted by the President and senior ffelloius of St Johns Colledge in Oxonie for the benefit of my son Thomas Broade Witness my hand this 26th day of October 1716 – Francis Broade’.

[47]verso (note of repair); ff. 30 (notes) 36 and 37 are small paper leaves (coats of arms); ff. 39, 45 and 46 are folded paper sheets; each leaf has been mounted onto a paper guard.

The Harley Collection, formed by Robert Harley (b. 1661, d. 1724), 1st earl of Oxford and Mortimer, politician, and Edward Harley (b. 1689, d. 1741), 2nd earl of Oxford and Mortimer, book collector and patron of the arts.
Edward Harley bequeathed the library to his widow, Henrietta Cavendish, née Holles (b. 1694, d. 1755) during her lifetime and thereafter to their daughter, Margaret Cavendish Bentinck (b. 1715, d. 1785), duchess of Portland; the manuscripts were sold by the Countess and the Duchess in 1753 to the nation for £10,000 (a fraction of their contemporary value) under the Act of Parliament that also established the British Museum; the Harley manuscripts form one of the foundation collections of the British Library.
