f. 1v: The opening of ‘A Compendious Treatise of Pleasure’, beginning ‘Of Pleasure, what it is, and how to bee trulie understanded according to the minde of God in the best parte: the Glorie also of the same, and where it chiefelie resteth in Manne: As also of the Pleasure, which to the Godlie is hatefull: bee loved of wicked worldelinges: and the dangers thereof unto thenn ensuinge, verie aptelie to be e considered of everie Estate, and in the youthfull daies speciallie of man, and so forth durine the time of mannes life’; imperfect.
ff. 2r-9r: A treatise 'Of the Minde of Manne, his Reasone, and Will, how rightelie of the Learned, thei are to bee understanded etcaetera'; beginning: 'The Mynde of Manne, his Reasonne, and Will hath byn and are now always accounted of the Learned Divines'.
ff. 10v-11v: A ‘Praire for the Queenes moste excellente maiestie: for hir honourable Councelloures, and for all other Christen Princes and Magistrates, that in theise our Daies hath speciall charge and Authoritie over Godds preci. redee. Inheri.’.
ff. 11v-13r: A prayer for Elizabeth I ('Elizabeth, oure moste gratious Queene and Gouvernoure'), entitled: ‘Praire unto God for his blessyng upon the Earth in theis Daies of neccessitie, and to themper mannes harte accordingelie, for cherefull relivinge of the Poore and needie’.
ff. 13r-13v: An untitled prayer, beginning ‘Stirre up (O Lorde) wee humble beeseech thee, and deferre not, dailie to quicken the hartes and willes of all thi faithfull People’.
Decoration:
1 large calligraphically decorated initial in a frame with foliate penwork decoration in black ink (f. 12r). Calligraphically decorated initials in black ink throughout the manuscript. Large and small initials higlighted in yellow or red. Foliate motifs in black ink (ff. 10r, 13v).

The Harley Collection, formed by Robert Harley (b. 1661, d. 1724), 1st earl of Oxford and Mortimer, politician, and Edward Harley (b. 1689, d. 1741), 2nd earl of Oxford and Mortimer, book collector and patron of the arts.
Edward Harley bequeathed the library to his widow, Henrietta Cavendish, née Holles (b. 1694, d. 1755) during her lifetime and thereafter to their daughter, Margaret Cavendish Bentinck (b. 1715, d. 1785), duchess of Portland; the manuscripts were sold by the Countess and the Duchess in 1753 to the nation for £10,000 (a fraction of their contemporary value) under the Act of Parliament that also established the British Museum; the Harley manuscripts form one of the foundation collections of the British Library.
