ff. 1r-200v: An English treatise, translated from an unidentified German treatise, entitled: ‘The Counterfeit vertu of Sectes together with their entangled discord, about the Ceremonies and other thinges nakedly Uncovered and Declared dialogue wise in Eight sonder and familiar Parlings or Communications: brought forth through a Lover of the Truth deceased Longe sythens in the Lord and translated out of high Duch into Low Duch by E. V: And out of Low Duch into English by a welwisser to Christian Religion’ (f. 1r). An introduction, ending: ‘Printed Anno M:D:lxxv:’ (ff. 1v-2r); ‘A declaracion of the discuters in this Book: ‘Reformed’ [‘Calvenists’]; ‘Confessionist’ [Lutherians’]; ‘Brother’ [‘Anabaptist’]; and a ‘Catholick’ [‘Unpartiall’] (f. 2v); ‘An Abstract or Argument, of the cheefe Contents of the Eight Parlings, or Communications here following’ (ff. 3r-4v).
The manuscript contains a later addition:

Foliation: ff. 1* + 200 (+ 4 unfoliated paper flyleaves at the beginning + 4 at the end); 1 unfoliated paper pastedown on f. [iv]recto (pressmark); f. 1* is a parchment leaf.
Script: 16th-century script.
Binding: British Museum in-house; Brown half leather with the Harleian arms gold-stamped on the outside covers; re-bound on 10 March 1966.

The Harley Collection, formed by Robert Harley (b. 1661, d. 1724), 1st earl of Oxford and Mortimer, politician, and Edward Harley (b. 1689, d. 1741), 2nd earl of Oxford and Mortimer, book collector and patron of the arts.
Edward Harley bequeathed the library to his widow, Henrietta Cavendish, née Holles (b. 1694, d. 1755) during her lifetime and thereafter to their daughter, Margaret Cavendish Bentinck (b. 1715, d. 1785), duchess of Portland; the manuscripts were sold by the Countess and the Duchess in 1753 to the nation for £10,000 (a fraction of their contemporary value) under the Act of Parliament that also established the British Museum; the Harley manuscripts form one of the foundation collections of the British Library.
