COPIES of official papers relating to co. Kent, viz.:-
1. "A coppie of one parte of the booke of the generall Musters of Kent taken the first and second daie of March anno regni regis Edwardi sexti secundo [1548]......of the hundreds of Middleton [Milton], Tenham [Teynham], Fenersham [Faversham] and Boughton under the Bleane [Boughton under Blean] and the vill of Osprenge [Ospringe Liberty in Faversham hundred, all in the lathe of Scray], taken by Sir Thomas Chieney, of the most noble order of the garter. Kt., Treasure of the king's....household and the Lord Warden of the Cinque Portes, by Anthonie Sands and Thomas Greene, Esquires, Commissioners allotted for those hundreds the musters and the official letters relating to them, giving the number of archers, billmen, gunners etc., and of those furnishing horses, archers, etc. f. 1.
2. Inventory under an order of the Privy Council, dat. 15 Feb. 1548[9], of the church furniture of the parish churches of the hundreds of Milton (f. 17 b), Teynham (f. 23 b), Faversham (f. 24 b) and Boughton under Blean (f. 28 b). The descriptions are detailed, and sales are noted with their causes. Two commissioners, John Norton and Robert Rudstone, and the vicar, churchwardens and parishioners attest the inventory in each case. Taken 1 April, 1549. f. 17.
3. Muster of the same hundreds for their contribution to 600 footmen to be raised in co. Kent, 1549. Commissioners, Sir Thomas Cheyne and Anthonie Sleeiger, gentlemen of the Privy Chamber. f. 31. Paper; ff. ii. + 33. Folio. Early xvii. cent. On f. i. are the pencil notes "Dering MSS." and "Boone 63." The volume no doubt formed part of the collections of Sir Edward Dering, lst Bart., and was bought by Sir Thomas Phillipps from Boone, the bookseller. Phillipps MS. 21160 (sale-cat. 1908, lot 452).
