CHARTULARY of the manor of Landwade, co. Cambridge. Latin. The manor was granted by Comes Albericus [Alberic de Ver, Earl of Oxford and Count of Ghisnes d. 1194] to Robert filius Willelmi, his constable (f. 2), and from him descended to Robert de Hastings (f. 2 b, temp. Hen. II.), and through the Hastings family to the familes of Sibile (1376, f. 24), Grace (1407, f. 29), and Cotton (1419, f. 33 b). The chartulary was compiled for Walter Cotton (f. 2), to whom with others a feoffment of the manor was made in 1431 (f. 36). At the end are grants of the advowson of St. Nicholas chapel, etc., to Fordham Priory (f. 37), and other deeds relating to lands in the manor in different, but contemporary hands. Inserted at the beinning (f. 1) is a leaf (late 16th cent.) containing extracts from records headed "Abststracts of the tenure of the Mannor of Lanwade alias Lanwathe called Hastinges." On f. 2 b mention is made of "terra monasterii de Lanwathe," but no such monastery is known. Vellum and paper (f. 1); ff. i. + 44. 1 ft. 1/8 in. x 8½ in xv. cent. (after 1431). The leaves have been much cut and mended with vellum at an early date. Phillipps MS. 10309 (sale-cat. 1908, lot 464).
