"Asur two fesses vnde golde on a Chef siluer thre Merlettes sable vpon his healme on a Torse siluer and asur a Red deres hedd Rasy geules beryng his veluet hedd caulled a pollarde aboute his neck a wrethe Lynked golde manteled geules dobled silver"; London, 5 Apr. 2 and 3 Phil.and Mary [1556]. In the margin the arms in colours, a Tudor rose crowned and two fleurs de lys. In the initial a portrait of Hawley in herald's costume pointing with a rod in his; right band to the arms and with his; left hand to the grant. Signed by Clarenceux, whose personal and official seals of arms are appended in lidless wooden boxes. 11½ in. x 1 ft. 11.3/8 in.
