BLATHWAYT CORRESPONDENCE. Vol. XI. (ff. 303). Diplomatic papers, chiefly copies, relating to the conference at Frankfort between the Empire and France concerning the French "réunions" in Alsace and on the Rhine and the interpretation of the Treaties of Westphalia and Nijmegen, and to negotiations with the Diet at Ratisbon; 1680-1682. The only two original documents are:-(a) Letter from the Diet to Charles II.; Ratisbon, 22 Aug. 1681. Lat. 20 paper seals. f. 20;-(b) The senate of Bremen to the same, on the arrival in the city of Sir Peter Wyche, English Resident in the Hanse Towns, 4 Jan. 1682. Lat. Paper seal. f. 84. Besides the documents connected with the negotiations the volume contains sonic other papers, of which the most important are:-
1. Proclamation by Frederick William, Elector of Brandenburg, in favour of shipbuilding and foreign trade; Köln on the Spree, 24 Dec. 1680. Transl. f. 1.
2. Reply, by Pablo Spinola Doria [Marqués de Los Balbases] to an offer of mediation by Charles II. between Spain and Brandenburg in the matter of a Spanish ship seized by the Elector's frigates; Madrid, 6 Jan. 1681. Transl. With a note by [Sir] Henry Goodricke, Envoy Extraordinary at Madrid. f. 3.
