WARDROBE-ACCOMPT of Robert de Tong, Treasurer of the Household of Eleanor, sister of Edward III., on her journey to Nijmegen to be married to Reginald, Count, afterwards Duke, of Guelders; 18 April-26 June, 1332. In Latin. The entries are classified thus (the headings are not always given):-(a) "Recepta denariorum." f.1;-(b) Oblationes et elemosynae. f. 2;-(c) Necessaria. f. 3;-(d) Dona. f. 8;-(e) Feoda. f. 10;-(f) Nuncii. f.11;-(g) "Iocalia empta.........et data per eandem dominam Alienoram diuersis magnatibus Anglie Almannie et Brabantie apud Nouum Magium." f. 12b;-(h) "Recepta diuersarum rerum sine precio." f. 13 b;-(i) "Recepta equorum." f. 13 b. The alms include maundy money, gifts to poor at Sluis, hermits at Aldgate and near Dover, shrines, etc., at St. Paul's Cathedral, Westminster Abbey, Rochester and Canterbury Cathedrals, St. Augustine's Abbey and Harbledown Hospital, Dover Priory and Nijmegen, and to nuns at "Calford" (?near Meehlin), and the "necessaria," etc., give much detail of presents and other expenses. Vellum; ff. v. + 13. 13½ in. x 10 in. A.D. 1332. Belonged to Thomas Martin of Palgrave; afterwards to Craven Ord, whose bookplate of arms is f. ii. (sale-cat. 1829, lot 547); Phillipps MS. 3787 (sale-cat. 1910, lot 279).
