FRAGMENTS of a chartulary or chartularies of Malmesbury Abbey, co. Wilts, viz.:-
1. Account of acquisitions made for the abbey by Abbot William de Colerne (1260-1296). This fragment (a gathering of eight leaves, but the first two are lost) corresponds to ff. 2-8 of the Public Record Office MS. and pp. 359-372 of vol. ii. of Brewer. and Martin's Registrum Malmesburiense (]Rolls Series, 1879-1880). Beg. "Dimidia virgata terre in Scorstone." f. 1. At the end (f. 6 b) are extracts from the pipe-rolls of the amount of issues paid to the king during two vacancies (1246 ? and 1260) before the elections of Abbots Geoffrey and William de Colerne, and from other records of the total temporalities and spiritualities of the abbey in the dioceses of Salisbury and Worcester, 13th cent. Artt. 2-5 formed a gathering of six or more leaves, of which the first two and last three only remain.
2. Table of contents to a chartulary of which the only other fragment now known appears to be ff. 1-7 of Add. MS. 15667. The table, which is evidently imperfect at the end, comprises capp. 1-169, which correspond (minor variations excepted) to the following chapters of the Record Office MS., viz., capp. 1-45 to R.O. capp. lxiv.-lxxxii.; capp. 46-57 to R.O. capp. xlii.-lxii.; capp. 58-169 to R.O. capp. xciii. to ccix. The fragment in Add. MS. 15667 comprises capp. 163-187 (but 183-187 are additions not in the original hand), corresponding to R.O. capp. cci-ccxxiii. with a few others (see Rolls ed. ii. p. lvi.). f. 7.
3. Copies of two proxies from William de Colerne, viz.:-(a) to mag. Ricardus de Spina at the Roman curia, 26 Nov. 1285;-(b) to mag. Edmundus Galun, for general purposes, n.d. f. 9.
4. Assessment of wheat, barley, oats, wheat-malt, barley-malt and oat-malt on each manor (with a note of the amount of wheat sown) and tables of operaciones, cherchsettis, titlies, mills and dairies of the abbey. f. 9 b.
5. Appeal to Rome by mag. W. de Draycote, rector of Garsdon, as proctor for the abbey, against a demand by Tho. de Staunton and Steph. de Fremeleye, collectors of a tenth granted to the king from the churches of Minty [co. Wilts, formerly co. Glouc.], Sutton [? Sutton Benger, co. Wilts] and Swyndon [Swindon, co. Wilts which did not belong to them ; no date. f. 11 b. Artt,. 6-15 are five leaves of another gathering written in charter hands. The contents do not appear in the other MSS.

10. Pleas, etc., between the abbey and Milicenta de Monte Alto concernerning suit of court for Blackland, co. Wilts, including writs addressed to William de Hamelton, clerk [in charge of the great seal], dat. Bordeaux, 12 Sept. and 7 Sept., and to the sheriff of Wilts, dat. 3 Nov. 15 Edw. 1. 14. Particulars, in more detail than in art. 4, of customary services due in each manor. Certain tenancies are apparently distinguished as "lawellurthes" and "lawerypes," and a measure called "la lupe" is mentioned. f. 15 b.
15. Inquisition before John de Pateshull, steward of Striguil, at Tudehain [Tidenham, co. Glouc.] concerning purprestures by the Abbot of Malmesbury at Plumwereselive [near Tintern?]; 27 Oct.
