Italian translation of selections from the seven books of Revelations of St. Bridget of Sweden (d. at Rome 1373, canonized 1391), compiled in Latin by Peter, Prior of Alvastra (printed, Lübeck, 1492, etc.). The Italian selections noticed by Klemming, Birgita Literatur (Stockholm, 1884) seem to be smaller works, but an Oxford MS. (Canonici 127) contains an Italian text in eight books. Beg. Deo gratias. Amen." Two vellum leaves from the binding (ff. i., ii.) contain part of a document relating to the appointment of syndics of the commune of S. Quericho in Osenna [S. Quirico d'Orcia, near Siena], 25 Jan. 1387. Paper; ff. ii. + 173. Circ. 1400. Gatherings of 16 leaves (last 12), with narrow vellum slips inside and outside. Initials in red. On f. 1 b is a fairly executed sepia-drawing of St. Bridget kneeling before a writing-desk, with the head of Christ above. On f. 2 an unfinished coat of arms. Original wooden boards covered with leather, with brass studs, rebacked. Bought by Sir T. Phillipps of Boone, the bookseller; Phillipps MS. 16078 (Bale-cat. 1910, lot 128).
