WHITEFOORD PAPERS. Vol. 1. (ff. 179). Correspondence and papers of Col. Charles Whitefoord; 1738-1752. He was on active service as Captain of the Royal Irish in Minorca, 1738-1739 ; as Aide-de-Camp to his uncle Lord Cathcart in the West Indies, 1740; as Lieut.-Colonel of the 5th Marines in Cuba, etc., 1741 ; m a Volunteer under Sir John Cope at the battles of Prestonpans and Culloden, 1745-1746; and, finally, as Lieut.-Colonel of the 5th (Irwin's) Regiment of Foot, on the Staff in Ireland, where he died 2 Jan. 1753. Many of the papers relate to the Rebellion of 1745. The names of the writers are given in the Index.
