CORRESPONDENCE and papers of Sir Julius Cæsar, chiefly in connexion with his offices of Judge of the Admiralty Court, Master of Requests and Chancellor of the Exchequer; 1547-1619. After the accession of James 1. a large proportion of the papers relate to Crown lands (i.e. concealed and assart lands and lands held by defective titles) and to the pre-emption and farm of tin. Described as No. I8 in Cæsar's Catalogue of his MSS. (Lansdowne MS. 124, f. 40), and furnished (ff. 398-400) with a list of contents in his handwriting, but the papers have since been re-arranged. For other volumes of Cæsar's collection, see Lansdowne MSS. 125-174, Add. MSS. 10038, 10113, 11405, 11406, 11574, 12496-12508, 14027 and 34324. The more important of the contents are:-
1. Rough draft of a warrant of the Privy Council: (1) regarding the relations of the Court of Admiralty and the Mayor and Corporation of London for the conservation of the river Thames and the punishment of such " as offende vppon the same aswel by distruccion of the young frye, as in casting of rubishe, wherby the streme is let of his ful currant, and such other thinges as be special annoyances of the sayd Ryver " ; (2) on the suit of the Corporation of London for the government of the fair in Southwark ; and (3) on the claim of the City for " Mesurage " and other privileges. Dated at Somerset Place, 3 July, 1 Edw. VI. [1547]. f. 1. There is no record of this in Acts of the Privy Council (Rolls Series).
2. Council Warrant for the searching out of all muniments, records, books, etc., concerning the registership and clerkship of the Admiralty Court, and the delivery of them when the Lord Admiral shall appoint; Windsor, 23 Sept.
