ORIGINAL MINUTES of the negotiations between the English and Scotch Commissioners at Ripon, 2-26 Oct. 1640; in the hand of Sir John Borough, Garter King of Arms, secretary to the English Commissioners. Preceded (f. 1) by a memorandum, 30 Sept. 1640, as to private communications with the Scotch Commissioners ; and followed (f. 45 b) by a slightly different version of the same, signed by the Earl of Bedford, Viscount Mandeville and Lords Wharton and Howard of Escrick, four of the Commissioners. Edited from this MS. by J. Bruce, Notes of the Treaty carried on at Ripon, etc., Camden Soc., 1869. Similar notes 'by Sir J. Borough of the Great Council of Peers at York, 25 Sept.-27 Oct. 1640, and of the negotiations at London, 19 Nov. 1640-12 Aug. 1641, are in Harley MSS. 456, 457. Paper; ff. i, 45. Probably purchased by Thomas Carew, of Crowcombe, at the sale of the library of James Brydges, Duke of Chandos, in 1747 (sale-cat. lot 2008). Crowcombe Court sale-cat. 1903, lot 299. Small folio.
