OFFICIAL and private letters to Lord Mountstuart, as Ambassador to Spain; 28 Jan. 1783-15 Dec. 1784. Lord Mountstuart was appointed Ambassador 12 March, 1783, and on 1 Jan. 1784 was succeeded by Lord Chesterfield. From the letters here of Robert Liston, Minister Plenipotentiary at Madrid pending the in Ambassador's arrival, and from the précis of Liston's correspondence in 1783-1784 in Add. MS. 34465, f. 1, it does not appear that Lord Mountstuart proceeded to Madrid. The names of the writers are included in the Index. The latter part of the volume is taken up with copies of papers chiefly relating to Spanish affairs, of which the more important are:-
