(1) Correspondence of Lord Aberdeen with Sir Frederick James Lamb, G.C.B. (Baron Beauvale 1839, 3rd Viscount Melbourne 1848), Ambassador to Portugal; June 1828-July 1829. Preceded (ff. 1-4b) by a letter, etc., from Lamb, 28 May 1828, addressed to John William Ward, 1st Earl of Dudley, Lord Aberdeen's predecessor as Foreign Secretary. ff. 5-53 b.
(2) Correspondence of Lord Aberdeen, mostly with (a) James Robert Matthews (July 1828-May 1829) and (b) Colin A. Mackenzie (May- Dec. 1830), successively Consuls-General in Portugal, who conducted British diplomacy after the withdrawal of the Ambassador. ff. 54-171.
(3) Correspondence with Pedro de Sousa Holstein, Marquez (1833 Duque) de Palmella, Portuguese Ambassador in London; June 1828- Feb. 1830. Three of the earlier letters are printed in the edition of Palmelia's Despachos e Correspondencia, iii, 1854, pp. 539-542. English and French. ff. 172-208b.
(4) Correspondence with Antonio Maria Corrêa de Sá e Benevides, Visconde de Asseca, unrecognised Plenipotentiary in London for the usurper, Dom Miguel. Included (f. 220) is an original signed letter to Aberdeen from Dom Miguel (20 Aug. 1828, in Portuguese), announcing his accession to the throne; July 1828-Nov. 1830.
