ABERDEEN PAPERS. Vol CCCVI (ff. 48). Draft of a review, by Lord Aberdeen, of Sir W. Gell's Topography of Troy. The unsigned review, printed in Edinburgh Review, vi, 1805, pp. 257-283, was principally the work of Sir W. Drummond (cf. a draft letter of Aberdeen to F. Jeffrey, 8 Apr. 1805, on f. 28, and Drummond's letters in Add. MS. 43229, ff. 73, 78), but certain passages from the present MS. were contributed by Aberdeen, to whom entire credit for the production has been commonly ascribed. Miscellaneous papers at the end include a few notes for a proposed edition by Aberdeen and Gell of Pausanias's description of Attica (ff. 36-39; cf. f. 4), and copies of some Greek inscriptions, the last two published in Boeckh, Corpus Inscr. Gr., 1570, 198. Autograph.
