C. Papers of Lt.-Gen. Oliver Nicolls as member of two Courts of Enquiry, viz.:-
(1) (a) Official letters, 19 Oct., 9,' ' 20 Nov. 1807, appointing and instructing Nicolls as member of the Court charged with investigating the conduct of Lt.-Gen. the Hon. Frederick St John at the battle of Laswari against the Marathas (1 Nov. 1803). ff. 5-9 b;-(b) Circular, 24 Aug. 1809, with (f. 10) autograph covering note from St John to Nicolls, enclosing copies of further depositions by officers present at the battle. ff. 10-19.
(2) (a) Official letter, 8 Nov. 1808, from the Judge Advocate-General's office, appointing Nicolls as a member of the Court charged with investigating the circumstances which led to the Convention of Cintra (30 Aug. 1808), followed (f. 22) by the letter dissolving the Court, 31 Dec. 1808. f. 20;-(b) Questions prepared by Nicolls for the interrogation of Sir Arthur Wellesley and Sir Hew Dalrymple, followed (ff. 23-25 b) by a draft of his verdict.
