LETTER-BOOK Of Richard Talbot, Earl and titular Duke of Tyrconnel, in Ireland, 1689-1690, consisting almost entirely of letters to Queen Mary of Modena, but with three to other persons. The extreme dates are October 10 /20 , 1689, and 24 June/4 July , 1690, the last being written from Ardee Camp, seven days before the battle of the Boyne. The letters deal with the state of the Jacobite army, their preparations for the campaign, and news of the enemy; in some cases the names of the bearers of the letters are given. Paper; ff. i + 29. Quarto. A.D. 1689-1690. Captured after the battle of the Boyne and afterwards in the possession of Sir Robert Southwell (see Add. MS. 38146, ff. 41 b, 102b). Bought by Sir Thomas Phillipps of Thomas Thorpe (catalogue, 1836, no. 1301). Phillipps MS. 8637 (sale-cat. 1911, lot 597).
