1. Confirmation by Sabina de Olivares, widow of Diego de Santa Cruz, of Avila, and her daughter Ana de Santa Cruz, of a sale of houses in the, suburbs of Avila in the ward (barrio) of the church of Santiago for 80,000 maravedi by her late husband to Maria de Valdivieso, widow of the licenciado Martín de Valle; Avila, 19 3Iar. 1547. f. 1.
2. Agreement between Juan de Ovalle, of Alba de Tormes [brother-in-law of St. Teresa] and Diego de Salcedo, clérigo, of Avila, concerning the sale, 8 Aug. 1560, to María Ortiz, widow, of Avila, of a censo of 2000 mrs. secured on certain houses near Sta. Ana estra muros of Avila; Avila, 29 July, 1561. At the end is added a certificate of the redemption of the censo by Juan de Ovalle Avila, 22 May, 1563. [N.B. The houses in question are probably those bought by Juan de Ovalle as St. Teresa's agent for the foundation of S. José ; see G. Cunningham Graham, Santa Teresa, 2nd ed., p. 208.] f. 15.
3. Sale by Francisco de Peralta, of Avila, and his wife Catalina del Adrada to Aldonza de Guzman, widow of Capt. Pedro de Ulloa [and mother of Guiomar de Ulloa, the friend of St. Teresa], of Avila, of houses in the suburbs of Avila in the ward of S. José; Avila, 19 Apr. 1564. [A later endorsement describes it as "escriptura q nos hico la sr doña giomar de olloa de las casas en que bive el pe. Julian davila." This is an error, but perhaps implies that the houses were subsequently given to S. José, by Guiomar de Ulloa.] f. 21.
4. Declaration by Juan de Ovalle, of Alba de Tormes, that two censos bought by him with money sent him from the Indies by Lorenzo de Cepeda [brother of St. Teresa], on 5 June, 1570, and on 1 June, 1571 were bought for the said Lorenzo; Avila, 27 July, 1576. f. 25.
5. Agreement by which the annual payments on the two censos mentioned in art. 4 and another sum are to be added to the dower of Juana de Ahumada, sister of Lorenzo de Cepeda and wife of Juan de Ovalle; Avila, 27 July, 1576. f. 28.
6. Mutual agreement by Francisco Martin, stone-mason, of Avila, with his father-in-law Juan de la Cruz as surety, and Teresa de Jesfis [St. Teresa], prioress of S. José, to observe the conditions of an agreement made on 31 Dec. 1581 for the building of a chapel in the church of S. José; Locutorio of S. José, 1 Jan. 1582. At the end is added a receipt for the full price, 3 Nov. 1582. f. 34.
7. Official copy, made 14 July, 1605, for the purposes of a suit to which Orofrisia de Mendoza y Castilla, of Valladolid [wife of St. Teresa's nephew Francisco de Cepeda], was a party, of a deed relating to a censo sold by Juan de Ovalle to Lorenzo de Cepeda [see art. 5]; Avila, 8 Nov. 1583. f. 40.
8. Certificate of examination, at the request of the Prioress, Maria de San Jerónimo, of the profession, on 5 Nov. 1582, of Teresa de Ahumada, daughter of Lorenzo de Cepeda and niece of St. Teresa, in religion Teresa de Jesús, a nun in the convent of S. José, her dower being 40,800 mrs. of juro on the alcabalas of Guadix. Avila, 24 Nov. 1587. f. 48.

Official copy, made 18 June, 1614, of an agreement made 1 Feb. 1549 by Francisco Alvàrez de Cepeda and María de Ahumada his wife, of Avila, with the convent of the Encarnacion, for the dower of their daughters Inés de Cepeda and Ana de Tapia [cousins of St. Teresa], nuns in the convent. Among the nuns assenting is St. Teresa (Doña Teresa de Ahumada). f. 52.
11. Petition by the convent of S. José that whereas Lorenzo de Cepeda left his goods to the convent contingent on his son Francisco dying childless, which condition is now fulfilled, and whereas he had a censo of 1000 ducats payable by the Duke of Medina Sidonia, which the convent believe has been redeemed, search may be made among the Duke's muniments for the deeds establishing and redeeming the censo. A note of particulars concerning the deeds has been added later. Early l7th cent. f. 70.
12. Memorandum of documents relating to the dower of Orofrisia de Mendoza y Castilla, wife of Francisco de Cepeda, and her sale of her rights to Francisco Guillamas. The extreme dates are 8 Dec. 1580 and 11 Mar. 1620. f. 72.

14. Petition by Fray Francisco del Santísimo Sacramento, of the order of Discalced Carmelites of Madrid, acting as proctor for the convent of S. José at Avila, for authorization to take evidence concerning Lorenzo de Cepeda, son of Lorenzo de Cepeda [the brother of St. Teresa], and brother of Francisco de Cepeda, defunct, now absent in the Indies. Copy. Followed by the required authorization by the Alcalde Pedro Váez (copy) and by the evidence of three witnesses; the whole signed by the Alcalde and others. The date of the authorization is 15 Jan. 1624, of the evidence 14, 15, 23 Mar. 1624. f. 75.
15. Register of abstracts of wills at Avila at various dates in the years l691-1698; incomplete and much damaged. The abstracts seem to have been made for ecclesiastical purposes, as the provisions quoted relate almost exclusively to masses, etc. The date of death is in each case given, and there are notes of the sums concerned. f. 79.
