SPANISH Collections and original articles, etc., viz.: —
1. Papers of the family of Saavedra, Marquises of Moscoso, relating to estates, etc., at Lima and elsewhere in Peru; 1639-1817. [italics]Spanish.[/italics] The names of the principal persons are given in the Index. f. 1.
2. Three poems in [italics]Spanish,[/italics] described in a pencil note [by Ashbee] at the head of the first as 'Poems by Angel Lasso de la Vega [y Argüelles] and in his handwriting.' The titles are: — 'A Cervantes en su Ingenioso Hidalgo. Canto.' Beg. 'Canto á un genio inmortal; á un genio canto.' f. 66; — 'A Cervantes. Oda.' Beg. 'En la feliz centuria.' f. 74; — 'Un episodio de la vida de Cervantes.' Beg. 'Valladolid, en Castilla.' f. 77.
3. Narrative of a voyage round the world, undertaken by Ashbee in 1880. The work was evidently intended for publication, and is divided into chapters, with mottoes to each chapter, but it does not seem ever to have been published as a whole, though the two brochures entitled [italics]A Ride to Peking[/italics] ([London], 1881), and [italics]The Metropolis of the Manchus[/italics] (London, 1882), may have formed, or been meant to form, chapters of it. The present MS. is incomplete, ending with the chapter 'Bombay to Kárlí Caves, November 28 to 29'; and something is perhaps missing between ff. 150 and 151. [italics]Hologr.,[/italics] except ff. 110-112. f. 87.
4. 'Les Auteurs-Amateurs Anglais': a paper by Ashbee, written for the Société des Amis des Livres, and apparently intended for publication in the Society's [italics]Annuaire[/italics], in which, however, it does not seem to have appeared. [italics]Hologr[/italics]. and [italics]signed[/italics], with corrections of the French by another hand. f. 214.
5. 'The Game of Whist': metrical rules for whist by William Pole, F.R.S., first published in Pole's revision of [italics]Short Whist[/italics] by Major A., 1865, and afterwards repeated in other works of the author. In Ashbee's hand. Beg. 'If you the modern game of Whist would know.' f. 226.
6. 'Miscellaneous Prints of Hogarth not included in the folio volume of his works' [i.e. the edition of 1835-1837]: a list of works. Not in Ashbee's hand. f. 228.
Ff. 235. Folio.
