PRECEDENT-BOOK of Ralph Howland of Maidenhead as J.P. for Berkshire, relating chiefly to events in the neighbourhood of Maidenhead, 1711-1732, with a note of his appointment (f. 2), a list of constables, overseers, surveyors, etc., for Cookham and Bray, 1710-1733 (f. 60), and an index (f. 64). Marginal notes to the copies of warrants, etc., refer to the works of R. Kilburn, J. Bond, W. Nelson, and M. Dalton. On ff. 49-57 (reversing the volume) is a series of laundry-bills, 1787-1791. Paper; ff. i + 69. Quarto. Belonged to Philip Bliss, D.D., who has written a summary of contents on f. 1 (Sotheby sale-cat., 21 Aug. 1858, lot 79); Dunn sale-cat. 1914, lot 820.
