"A NOTE an (sic) abstract of all the privy seales past since Sir Thomas Strickland [2nd Bart. of Boynton], Robert Millward [Justice of Chester], and my selfe [Sir Edward Dering, 2nd Bart. of Surrenden-Dering] were intrusted with the keepinge of it, viz.
22 September, 1669." The Seal was in commission till 19 Apr. 1673, during the absence in Ireland as Lord Lieutenant of the Lord Keeper, John Robartes, Baron Robartes of Truro (1st Earl of Radnor, 1679). This volume, ending at Christmas 1670, was the first of three, and is in Dering's autograph. Many of the entries have interesting memoranda attached, and on f. 64 (reversing the volume) is a copy of the original commission. Paper; ff. iii + 64. 67/8 in. x 41/2 in. Morocco binding (17th cent.?). Book-plates of F. W. Cosens, F.S.A. (sale-cat. 1890, lot 325) and J. E. Hodgkin, with arms (sale-cat., lot 1268).
