MACKENZIE PAPERS. Vol. XIX. History of the Family of Mackenzie, transcript of a manuscript work attributed to Sir George Mackenzie, Viscount Tarbat, 1st Earl of Cromarty (d. 1714). Printed, as far as f. 79b, from the same source (itself apparently a copy) in Sir William Fraser's The Earls of Cromartie (1896) ii, p. 462. The latter part, according to a note on f. 79b, is an addition in the MS. copied, and seems to have been illegible or torn in many places and defective at the end. The pages of the MS. copied are noted in pencil in the margin, see note on f. 1 by Lewis Mark Mackenzie, who collated it, 10 Jan. 1849. Prefixed (f. iii) is a letter from John Rennie to J. H. Hughes, dat. Edinburgh 17 Dec. 1849, referring to the transcription. Paper ; ff. iv + 92. Small folio. On f. i is the note "Presented to me by the Revd.J. Henry Hughes in 1870. J. D. Mackenzie" (the latter name erased), and on f. 2 "James Henry Hughes, H.E.I.C.S., Portobello Decr. 17th 1849."
