Grant of arms to Sir Nicholas Bacon, Kt., Lord Keeper, viz. : quarterly, 1st and 4th for Bacon, gules on a chief argent two mullets sable, 2nd and 4th Quaplade, barry of six or and azure a bend gules; with crest, on a torse argent and gules a boar passant ermine, mantled azure, doubled or, as in left-hand margin, where, however, three alternative crests are illustrated; the other margins contain impaled or quartered coats of several generations of the family (Ufford, Quaplade, Ferneley, Cooke); 27 Feb. 1568/9.
