SOUTHGATE COLLECTION, Vol. VI. Lute music, in tablature, traced by Florence G. Attenborough from a MS. formerly belonging to the Rookwoods of Coldhani, and afterwards descending through them to the Gages of Hengrave, co. Suff. The composers named or indicated appear to be all of the middle of the 17th century, viz. : J[ohn] Jenkins, J[ohn] N[evile], Simon Clarke, Ch[ristopher] S[impson], N.P., and N.Y. At the end of one (f. 34 b) is written " Blex Yapp." Paper ; ff. i + 54. Early xx cent., from a MS. of the middle of the
17th cent. Quarto. On f. 4 b are notes, copied from the original MS., relating to Dr. John Story (executed in 1571), and, at the end, others in the hand of the bequeather, referring to the contents of the MS. (of which two blank leaves with watermarks are given, ff. 45, 46), and to its owners, and printed cuttings about the latter, and about the Kitson family, formerly owners of Hengrave Hall.
