PARHAM MS II: Parchment roll containing Ἀκολουθία τῶν Ἐγκαινίων: Office for the dedication of a church, with connected or similar offices
- Scope & Content:
-
PARHAM MS II: Parchment roll containing Ἀκολουθία τῶν Ἐγκαινίων: Office for the dedication of a church, with connected or similar offices. The contents are as follows:
1. Τάξις γινομένη ἐπὶ καθιερώσει ναοῦ, καὶ ἱδρύσει τῆς ἐν αὐτῷ ἁγίας τραπέζης: Office for the dedication of a church. The text differs considerably in the rubrical directions from that given in Goar (1730), pp. 655-664. The Office for the previous day (the first paragraph in Goar) is here omitted and given separately after the rest (see below). There are frequent additions in a later hand in the margins, which in many cases agree with the text in Goar. The epistle and gospel at the end are omitted, but have been inserted in the margin, where, however, an alternative gospel, John 10:22-30, not in Goar, is added. The text in Harley MS 5614, ff 121r-140v, agrees with that in Goar.
Instructions for the service on the day preceding the main Office; as regards the earlier part agreeing in the main with the first paragraph in Goar (1730), but the service is very much longer (mostly in abbreviated form). Several of the individual items in this occur in modern Euchologia (see also Harley MS 5614, ff 142v-149). Inc. Ἀφ' ἑσπέρας ὁ ἐπὶ τῶν χειροτονιῶν.
Office for the replacing of an Altar (Goar 1730, pp. 614-615, also in Harley MS 5614, ff 140v-142v).
Office for the consecration of antiminsia (Goar 1730, pp. 648-650).
Office for the ablution of the Altar (Goar 1730, pp. 623-625; Harley MS 5614, ff 149r-151v).
6. Περὶ τῆς ἁγίας τραπέζης ἧς τὰ ἄμφια διεφθάρησαν. the rubric which in Goar (1730) pp. 627-628 follows the preceding. So also in Harley MS 5614, f 151v, without a separate heading.
Office of the Holy Chrism (Goar 1730, pp. 628-630; also in Add. MS 34060, ff 151r-152r). Inc. Τῇ ἁγίᾳ καὶ μεγάλῃ Πέμπτη ἀντὶ τοῦ χερουβικοῦ (following directly on the preceding, without separate heading; so also in Add. MS 34060, f 152r). The rubric printed separately in Goar, p. 637.
Office for the foundation of a church (Goar 1730, pp. 606-607).
