Material: Parchment.
Foliation: ff iv + 221 + iv. ff 139-142 have been misplaced in binding: the true order is 138, 140, 139, 142, 141, 143.
Dimensions: 375 x 290 mm.
Ruling: 240 x 65 mm, written in two columns, 22 lines per column.
Binding: Bound in red velvet with a clasp, the front cover studded with five gilt buckles, of post-medieval workmanship.
Decoration: Decorated head-pieces and initials in red and blue, headings and neumes in red. A number of the initials are of zoomorphic or anthropomorphic form, e.g. O in the form of a fish (ff 6r, 138v, 157v), and E with a human hand for a cross-bar (ff 1r, 7v).
Scribe: Νίκων, Repertorium 1A, no. 332, though the name could possibly be Νικόλαος (Evangelatou-Notara) or Νικήτας (Richard). Corrections made by a later hand, possibly the Μιχαὴλ of f 221r.

Written at Ciscissa in Cappadocia for the bishop Stephanos in 980: f 220v.
Revised by Michael, a notary, at Ciscissa in 1049: f 221r.
Additional ownership inscription dated 1052, f 221r.
There is a note apparently in Georgian on f1r.
Owned by the monastery of Caracalla on Mount Athos, where it was acquired by Robert Curzon in 1837: Scrivener, Codex Augiensis p. 51.
Add MSS 39583-39671, along with Oriental MSS 8729-8855, were loaned to the British Museum by Darea Curzon, Baroness Zouche, on 19 April 1876, and bequeathed to the Museum on the death of Baroness Zouche on 7 April 1917, having been part of the collection formed at Parham, Co. Sussex, by the Hon. Robert Curzon, afterwards 14th Baron Zouche, as the result of his travels in the Levant, etc., in 1833 and later. A copy of Robert Curzon's Catalogue of Materials for Writing, ... Rolls and other Manuscripts and Oriental Manuscript Books (1849), with manuscript additions, accompanied the gift, and is now Add MS 64098.
