PARHAM MS XXVII: Isaiah of Scetis (Isaiah of Gaza), Asceticon (CPG 5555), ff 2r-158r, imperfect at the end, expl. ἐκτρέφομεν, in the 29th and last discourse, owing to the loss of a quire after f 158, and in the middle, owing to the loss of a leaf after f 86. Preceded by a table of contents, ff 1r-v, and followed by [Basil of Caesarea], Constitutiones Asceticae (TLG 2040.074), chapter 1, of which only the end survives, inc. λάβομεν, μένωμεν (PG 31:1337, where the text reads λάβωμεν, μείνωμεν).

Material: Parchment and paper.
Foliation: ff i + 159 (ff 1, 3-6, 11-12, 42, 45, 83-84, 103 and 110 are 17th or 18th century additions on paper).
Dimensions: 285 x 230 mm.
Ruling: 202 x 80 mm, written in two columns, 26 lines per column.
Binding: Hybrid full leather Greek/western binding of goatskin over wooden boards, with blind-tooled central stamp and corner pieces. Two pins on the front board fore-edge, and two pairs of three holes through the back board for straps. Writing on the upper edge, which can be seen on Digitised Manuscripts as f iii recto.
Decoration: Illuminated head-pieces and initials, other initials and titles in gold.

Karakalou Monastery, Mount Athos: ownership inscription f 1v: τὸ παρὸν βιβλίον τὸ λεγόμενον τοῦ ἀββᾶ Ἡσαίου· ὑπάρχει τῆς μονῆς τῶν ἁγίων ἀποστόλων Πέτρου καὶ Πάυλου· τὴν λεγομένην τοῦ Καρακάλου· καὶ οὐδεὶς δύναται ἀποξενῶσαι αὐτῶ ἐκ τῆς ῥηθήσης μονῆς, ἵνα μὴ λάβῃ τὸ ἐπιτίμιον τῶν ἁγίων πατέρων.

Add MSS 39583-39671, along with Oriental MSS 8729-8855, were bequeathed to the British Museum by Darea Curzon, Baroness Zouche (d. 1917), having been part of the collection formed at Parham, Co. Sussex, by the Hon. Robert Curzon, afterwards 14th Baron Zouche, as the result of his travels in the Levant, etc., in 1833 and later. A copy of Robert Curzon's Catalogue of Materials for Writing, ... Rolls and other Manuscripts and Oriental Manuscript Books (1849), with manuscript additions, accompanied the gift, and is now Add MS 64098.
