PARHAM MS. XLIII. THE FOUR GOSPELS, in Slavonic of Bulgarian character, with tables of "kephalaia", liturgical divisions, Ammonian sections, menology and synaxaria. Imperfect. The first four gatherings have disappeared save for one leaf (now f. 1) containing Matth. xv. 23-xvi. 2. The original fifth gathering begins (f. 2) in Matth. xvi. 21. Another leaf with Joh. xxi. 20-end is missing after f. 184. Vellum ; ff. ii + 208. 11 1/8 in. x 8 1/4 in. Gatherings generally of 8 leaves, with signatures. Lines generally 22 to a page. Written, according to the colophon (f. 207 b), in the town of Bdyn [Vidin in Bulgaria] by order of the Metropolitan Daniel in the Patriarchate of Theodosius; (1346 ?-1356, see Uspenski), and in the reign of John Alexander, Tsar of the Bulgarians and the Greeks,
and of the young Tsar John Sratsimir. Rough coloured headpieces to each Gospel. Feb. has 29 days in the calendar. Brought by Curzon (see note on f. i) from the monastery of Caracalla on Mt. Athos in 1837. Curzon Cat., Bulgarian MSS. no. 2, p. 31 (pencil numbering 151).
