Lat. cxiv. 355), with additions. Preceded by the argument beg. " Hic est Iohannes " (Berger 236, printed by Wordsworth and White, Nouum Testamentum, i, p. 485). The passage Joh. xiii. 16-xiv. 31, which in some uses was read at the Washing of Feet on Maundy Thursday (e.g. see Officium Hebdomadae Sanctae juxta ritum Sac. Ord. Praed., 1741, p. 203 ; Missale ad usum Sarum, 1861-83, col. 313), is marked by a red cross in the margin at beg. and end. Imperfect at end, " et ad hoc ueni in" [mundum, xviii. 37], wanting a quire. Vellum ff. ii + 64. 9 1/4 in. x 6 1/4 in. Late xii cent. Written in the Low Countries, probably at Parc Abbey (see below). Gatherings of 8 leaves, with signatures (i-viii) on the last page of each quire. 16 to 20 (mostly 19) lines of text to a page. Sec. fol. " discipulis suis." Ornamental pen-and-ink initials on ff. 1, 2 b (the latter partly washed in blue, red, green, and yellow), in each case representing a nimbed eagle with foliage. On f. 1 is an erased inscription, " Liber . . . 1 " (18th cent.). On f. ii b is a note by Curzon on the supposed origin of the names ut, re, mi, etc., of musical notes. Bound in brown calf (17th-18th cent.), with the arms (erased) of Parc Abbey, near Louvain (cf. Add. MSS. 17286, 17289, etc.), gilt-stamped on the covers. [Parc Abbey] press-mark " I. theca ii " inside the first cover. Curzon Cat., MSS. in Latin, no. 19.
