PARHAM MS L. PSALTER, in Latin. Preceded by a Calendar, and followed by the Canticles (f. 233 b), " Laus angelorum " (the Gloria in excelsis, f. 251), Pater noster (f. 251 b), Apostles', Nicene and Athanasian Creeds (ff. 252, 252 b, 253 b), and Litany (f. 257). In the litany, as well as in the Calendar (Sept. 30, Oct. 21), SS. Jerome and Ursula are in red. Vellum ; ff. i + 267. 4 7/8 in. x 3 1/4 in. Second half of XV cent. Written in (northern ?) Italy. Gatherings (beg. f. 2) of 10 leaves (i12, last 2), with catchwords. Slight, but fairly good, illuminations in N. Italian style, viz. initial B to Ps. i (f. 14) in colours on gold ground, enclosing a miniature of David in prayer, with partial border of gold arabesques (enclosing a half-length medallion of St. Benedict, with book and bundle of rods, at the foot of the page) on a blue ground; initial D to Ps. cix (f. 185 b), enclosing a half-length figure of Christ, with partial border of foliage-scrolls, blue and crimson flowers, and rayed gilt discs, two-, three- or fourline initials in colours on gold, with similar pendent borderdecoration, to Pss. xx (f. 42), xxvi (f. 51), xxxii (f. 60 b), etc.; flourished initials in red and blue to the other Psalms, Canticles, etc. On f. i " P. Benedicti Tonini à Petra sta [Pietrasanta, near Lucca] Min. Observis : 1789," and below " Curzon. MDCCCXXXII. Florentiæ." Bound in boards covered with dark brown Morocco. with slight gilt-tooling (much worn, 17th-18th cent.), clasps and thongs lost. Curzon Cat., MSS. in Latin, no. 7 (pencil numbering Lat. 4).
