PARHAM MS. LXVI. VIRGIL, Eclogues, Georgics and Aeneid. Preceding the Aeneid are (f. 53 b) the twelve monosticha beg. " Primus habet Libicam ueniant ut Troes in urbem," printed by Bährens, Poetae Lat. Minores, iv, p. 151. Each book is prefaced by another monostich summary "Eneas primo Libie depellitur horis," etc. (Bährens, iv, p. 176), and by the ten-line summary of Bährens, iv, pp. 162-168, beg. " Vir magnus bello nulli pietate secundus. " The monosticha are wanting in books ii, iii, iv and xii (cf. Royal MS. 15 B. vi). Book i has also the " Ille ego " introduction. Five lines on women are written on f. 227 b, beg. " Si uis diffinire et quid sit femina scire," and, in a later hand, Juvenal vi. 460. Vellum; ff. ii + 227. 10 7/8 in. x 7 1/8 in. XV cent. Written in Italy. Gatherings of 10 leaves (iv8, xv11, xxiii8), lettered ; 29 lines to the page. Sec. fol. " et fontes sacros." Gold initials (the first with portrait of the poet) over the usual white vine-tendril design, continued on f. 1 to form a partial border. Arms of Ugolini of Florence (per bend, az. and or., two lions passant counterchanged - the tinctures are the reverse of those in Add. MS. 12001) in a wreath supported by putti. Blind-tooled brown morocco binding (interlaced cablework, Italian, 15th cent. ?), with four small leather and brass clasps, cf. Add. MS. 12001 and W. Y. Fletcher, Foreign Bookbindings, 1896, pl. viii. In box case covered with blue leather. On f. i " R. Curzon, 1829." Curzon Cat., MSS. in Latin, no. 22.
