PARHAM MS. LXXI. " VALERII MAXIMI factorum et dictorum memorialium (sic) liber primus incipit " : the nine books in a text of the deteriores class (see ed. Kempf, Teubner series, 1888). Preceded, on two inserted leaves and in a different hand, by interpretations of Roman historical terms beg. " Primo namque fuerunt reges," the same (with great verbal differences) as occur in Royal MS. 15 B. x, f. 142 b, beg. there " Primum imperium Romanum reges habuere." Colophon (f. 83) " Explicit liber Vallerii : Amen. Deo gratias. Nicholaus qui scripxit hoe opus sit benedictus. Premium recipiat et salarium sicud optat etc." A table of chapters ends the volume. Vellum; ff. 84. 12 3/4 in. x 9 1/8 in. Late XIV cent. Written in Italy. Gatherings of 8 leaves (last10), with catchwords. Double columns of 38-46 lines. Sec. fol. " impedimento." Illuminated initials to each book (the first with partial border and enclosing a half-length figure of the author). Curzon Cat., MSS. in Latin, no. 18.
