PARHAM MS.LXXIII. "INCIPIUNT ANNALIA Porsenne regis": a legendary account of Tuscany, " unde tua origo emanauit,"
addressed to Pope Pius II [Piccolomini] and purporting to be a translation from a work of G. Vibenna. The preface begins " Lectitanti mihi nuper," the history " Urbem Romanam septem habuisse reges." The book concludes with the note " Hoc in loco animaduertendum est, sanctissime pater, quod septuaginta capitola, que ab hoe ultimo impresenti uolumine sequebantur, ut ex ymaginibus libri aperte uideri potuit, legere non ualui, erant enim extincta uetustate, puluere, tineis, et muribus corrosa, que etiam in latinum conuertissem ; ideo opus incompletum relinquo." Vellum ; ff. iii + 22. 7 3/8 in. x 5 1/2 in. A.D. 1458-1464 ? Written in Italy. Initial with arms of Pope Pius II (1458-1464) with partial white vine border. Gatherings of 10 and 12 leaves: pages of 26 lines. Sec. fol. " finiuit." Binding of brown leather with blind-tooled panel. On f. ii is the owner's name " Domini Laurentij D. Bartholomei Equitis Cesarei de familia Griffolorum." Curzon Cat., MSS. in Latin, no. 13 (bis).
