PARHAM MS. LXXVI. " LESTRIF de Vertu et Fortune," in three books, in verse and prose, dedicated to Philip [the Good], Duke of Burgundy, by Martin Le Franc, Provost of Lausanne Cathedral and Secretary to Pope Nicholas V (1449-1455). Printed in a rare edition (Lyons, circ. 1476 ?), reprinted by Michel Lenoir, Paris, 1519. Prologue beg. " A treshault ... En quoy plus conuenablement," text " Pensant comment le monde se varie dessoubz le ciel qui dorient charie." The text is nearer to Harley MS. 4474 than to Royal 16 F. iv, having the verses at the end of Bk. ii which the Royal MS. omits. G. Paris, in Romania, xvi, p. 397, n. 4, gives a list of twelve MSS. of Lestrif ; cf. also A. Piaget, Martin le Franc, 1888. Vellum ; ff. 96. 10 5/8 in. x 7 1/2 in. Sec. fol. " En hault degre. " Written in North France, late xv cent. Gatherings of 8 leaves. Large miniature (f. 1 b) : an interior, Vertu and Fortune (with her wheel) debating before Reson (on throne). illuminated initials and partial borders at divisions of books, and smaller initials in gold and colours. Modern binding of red velvet. On f. 1 the motto : " Let Curzon holde what Curzon helde." Curzon Cat., MSS. in Modern Languages, no. 1.
