PARHAM MS. LXXXVI. " THE LEGEND of San Milano," a translation into English verse, by John Hookham Frere, from the Spanish of Gonzalo de Berceo, Vida de San Millan, stanzas 57, 63-65, 77, 78, copies of which, in another hand, are on ff. 3-4. Autograph. Printed in The Works of John Hookham Frere, ii (1872), p. 467, with the difference that the last two words of the MS., " are known," are printed as " anon." Preceded by a note on Berceo by Frere. On f. 1 b is a pen-and-sepia illustration by [Catherine Lucy Wilhelmina Primrose,] Lady Dalmeny [afterwards Duchess of Cleveland], executed, according to a pencil note on f. 1, in 1846 or 1817. Inserted at the end (f. 11) is a letter from Frere to [R. W.] Hay, enclosing a copy of his verses on Nelson, printed, with some alterations, in Works, i, p. 308. Paper; ff. 13. Quarto. xix cent. Bound in calf, arms as on 39664. Not in Curzon Cat.
