WARREN HASTINGS PAPERS. Vol. I (ff. i + 153). Miscellaneous correspondence of Warren Hastings, 1775-1818. Among the correspondents (all of whom are given in the Index) are: Lord Mansfield, Sir Joshua Reynolds, Dr. Samuel Johnson, Sir William Jones, Lord Cornwallis, William IV as Duke of Clarence, the Marquis of Lansdowne, Lord Nelson, Marquis Wellesley, the Duke of Fife, George Canning, Lord Ellenborough and the Earl of Moira. Four letters (two in duplicate), written in a minute hand on long, narrow slips of paper, were sent in quills in the ears of native runners by Warren Hastings when besieged in the fort of Chuiiar (Chanár) to Mrs. Hastings (ff. 16-24). The quills are preserved in the binding.
