1. Letter from [Guybon] Goddard, a Parliamentarian, to " my deare and honoured brother[-in-law] John Greene Esq. at Serjeant Green's house in ye old Jury, London " (see Foster, London Marriage Licenses, 1887, col. 555), referring to the siege of Newcastle by the Scots, the taking of the Covenant, etc. Dat. Lynn Regis, 25 Feb.
1643/4. A seal of arms of Goddard (another armorial seal has been attached later). f. 1. Presented by Joseph J. Green, Esq.
2. Anonymous letter, in a feigned hand, concerning a free translation of Racine's Iphigénie addressed to [Thomas] Hull, the actor, requesting him " not to endeavour at a discovery of the real author or to enter into any correspondence relative to this play," and to produce the play under his own name, if agreeable ; also making arrangements for the payment of part of the profits, etc. With a note by Hull "N.B. - I found this letter and the manuscript of Iphigenia at my house in New Crown Court, on Saturday night, May 8th 1775.- T H." Hull produced a play " Iphigeneia, or the Victim " at Covent Garden on 23 March 1778, but this appears to have been Boyer's version [see Genest, English Stage, Vol. vi, p.. 24]. f. 3.
