Burghley Papers
A volume containing copies of instructions from the Council to Sir Francis Walsingham, during his embassy at the French Court in the years 1570, 1571 and 1572; and of his dispatches, to Lord Burghley and other Members of the Council. It also contains copies of other instructions to Sir Henry Norris and to the Earl of Lincoln, Lord High Admiral, who was sent as Ambassador to France in aid of Sir Thomas Smith and Sir Fra. Walsingham together with their dispatches to the Council. The instructions seem, for the most part, to have been drawn up by Lord Burghley. The letters include a great variety of political and other matters, in a eneral correspondence between the above parties, but chiefly concern Sir Francis Walsingham and Lord Burghley: The volume, in all probability, belonged to Sir Francis.
