The Benedictine nunnery of Sts Mary and Elfleda, Romsey, Hampshire: 14th-century inscription, ‘Romesey’, which also annotates the life of Elfleda (ff. 43v–45v), which mentions the abbey (f. 43v); late 15th-century inscription ‘Iste liber est de librario \ecclesie/ sancte Marie et sancte Etheflede uirginis. de Romesey’ (f. 1r).
Initials ‘E.B.’ with the motto ‘Heb Dhun, heb dhim’.
Initials ‘JP’ with the number 54 (f. 1r).
‘KKf’ replaced with ‘LLf’, referring to the price? (f. 1r). Other inscriptions and scribbles.
Sir James Ware (b. 1594, d. 1666), antiquary and historian.
William Petty (formerly Fitzmaurice) (b. 1737, d. 1805), 2nd earl of Shelburne and 1st marquess of Lansdowne, prime minister; purchased by the British Museum together with 1244 other Lansdowne manuscripts in 1807.
