folio.
A large volume of Collections from Parliamentary Records, from 51 Edw. II. to the end of the reign of Edw. IV. and concluding with the Act declaring the right and title of Richard III. On the first leaf is the following note by Mr, Umfreville, who probably got the volume from Sir J. Jekyll's library. It had belonged to Lord Somers. "This is a coppy of the book published by Prynn as collected by Sir Robert Cotton; but it was the proper collection of Sir John Burroughs, who, regnante 1o Caroli [Carolo?] was keeper of the Tower Records. 'Twas not from this coppy that Prynn published; for it contains more than the printed book." So far Mr. Umfreville. A careful collation with the printed copy may probably confirm the truth of the above assertion; but it is certain that the printed copy contains matter not in the manuscript. The question whether the work was collected by Sir Robert Cotton or by Sir John Burroughs may be still undecided. It has been maintained that the collection was made by Mr. Bowyer, keeper of the Tower Records in the reign of Queen Elizabeth. See Tyrrel's introduction to the third volume of his History of England.
