(a) Second setting for men's chorus and military band or 'piano 2-some' (four hands at one piano); 'composed June 30-July 2, 1906', 'Birthday-gift mother, July 3, 1906' (f. 1b). Transposed down a semitone from first setting with key signature of one sharp. Vocal and piano score in ink; 'Written out Waterloo, Iowa, Feb. 18-19, 1922'. Printer's copy (?) amended with pastedowns but lacking other indications (Dreyfus 1980, p. 77). ff. 1-7;- (b) Version for men's chorus accompanied by full or small orchestra or piano duet. Printed vocal and piano score, published 1923, annotated in black and red. Printer's copy (for 1929 edition?). ff. 8-14b;- (c) Version for men's chorus accompanied by military band (printed heading) or orchestra (MS.). 'Final scoring Dec. 9-17, 1924' (f. 41) but rescored for orchestra in 1926. Ink full score, fair copy (prepared but not used for publication?). The title and text of the chorus parts are cut from the published vocal score, amended in MS. and with pastedowns. Dedicated 'Yule-gift, 1924, to memory of beloved mother' (f. 16). Cf.
