CHURCH HOUSE MANUSCRIPTS. Vol. VI. 'Norwich Tabernacle Book', comprising hymn-tunes collected for use at the Methodist Tabernacle in Norwich; aft. 1797 (watermark passim). For four voices in open score. Mostly without words. Names and metres of tunes given in the headings. For the foundation of the Tabernacle under the influence of James Wheatley in 1751 and for its early history, see V.C.H., Norfolk, ii, 1906, pp. 303-4. Preceded (ff. 1b-2b) and followed (ff. 208-209) by indices of tunes in short, long, common and peculiar metres, mostly in another hand, 19th cent. Notes in the hand of Dr A. H. Mann on ff. 114b-115, 163b-164, refer to publication of the tunes 'St. Simons' and 'Adleby'. Includes (f. i) a printed report from the Eastern Evening News of an address given at the Tabernacle by J. H. Tillett, 29 Dec. 1891. Presented to W. Jarrold of Norwich by John Harcourt, 1857. See f. 1b.
