CHURCH HOUSE MANUSCRIPTS. Vol. X. 'Original Chants by E[dwin] G[eorge] Monk' (f. 1), Organist of York Minster (b. 1819, d. 1900); 1857-1866. Autograph fair copies. For four voices in open score. Arranged roughly in order of composition:- (1) Fifteen single chants, 1857-1858.
ff. 2-4;- (2) Two single and five double chants, 1859-1866. ff. 5-6;- (3) One double chant, 'written for the Choir Benevolent Meeting in York Minster. Sepr. 1860', f. 6b. Published, in part, with occasional minor variations, in Monk's Chants for the Daily Psalms, 1859, his Anglican Chant Book, revised ed. 1879, or in Sir F. A. G. Ouseley and E. G. Monk, Anglican Psalter Chants, 3rd ed. 1876. On f. i are the signature of A. H. Mann and an autograph note of presentation to 'Dr. A. H. Mann from T[homas] W[illiam] Taphouse [(b. 1838, d. 1905) music dealer and collector, of Oxford], . . . December 31st 1903', on whom see A. H. King, Some British Collectors of Music, 1963.
