CHURCH HOUSE MANUSCRIPTS. Vol. XII. 'A Course of Anthems, Introits, Hymns at the Offertory and after Evening Service throughout the Year', partly by named composers; compiled aft. 1866 (f. 99). Imperfect, by the excision of pp. 71-74, 131 in the original pagination. Mostly for four voices in open score. Includes single and double chants and metrical psalms in Old and New Versions, hymns, etc. Arranged according to the Church's year. The main sources noted, partly in another hand and in pencil, are Hymns Ancient and Modern, 1st ed. 1861, J. Hullah's Psalter, 1843, and Sacred Minstrelsy, ed. W. Ayrton, 1834. Preceded (ff. 1b-3) by lists of hymns and psalms for 'Sundays and Principal Holidays' and an alphabetical index, to this and the supplementary volume, both partly cancelled. Followed (ff. 100b-101) by lists for weekdays.
Paper; ff. 101. 200 x 165mm. Written in black and red. Pages divided by red ink rules. Canticles on ff. 3b-13 cancelled in red. Many alterations made by excision and pasting before original ink pagination 1-199 on ff. 3-99b.
