ELLIS PAPERS. Vol. III. 'Observations on the Devices and Badges of Cognizance formerly borne by the Royal Families of England' (so on f. 34, etc.) in the form of six letters addressed by Sir H. Ellis to the Earl of Aberdeen, President of the Society of Antiquaries. The first four are dated 28 Jan.-9 May 1822, the fifth and the sixth, which is perhaps incomplete, being undated; none is either printed or reported in Archaeologia, though the last is a continuation of an earlier article by Ellis, printed in Archaeologia, xvii, pp. 226-227. Some letters from correspondents on Royal badges are placed at the beginning, and at the end a mass of miscellaneous notes, chiefly in Ellis's hand, is arranged chronologically under reigns. Drawings of Royal badges by Charles Stothard, William Woods and others are included. Paper; ff. 182. Quarto. XIX cent.
