PERABO COLLECTION. Vol. II. Compositions by Johann Sebastian Bach, Franz Peter Schubert and Robert Alexander Schumann, viz.:-
(1) 1st Oboe part of the Cantata 'Herr Gott dich loben alle wir'(no. 130), by [Johann Sebastian Bach], circ. 1740, with title and directions by the composer. Autograph. On f. 2b the 2nd oboe part (doubling the alto) of the chorale (a variant of the 'Old Hundredth') was written and cancelled by the composer. For the autograph MSS. of the choral and other orchestral parts of the cantata, see Schmieder, Thematisch-systematisches Verzeichnis der Werke J. S. Bachs, pp. 174-175; a clarino part is in the library of Royaumont Abbey, dépt. Seine et Oise, France. Printed in J. S. Bachs Werke (Bach-Gesellschaft ed.), xxvi, I876, p. 458. Accompanied (f. i) by a 19th cent. wrapper. Paper; ff. 2. Folio. Circ. 1740. Belonged successively to Hans Georg Nägeli, and to Hermann Schulz, of the firm of Otto August Schulz, booksellers, of Leipzig (ibid., p. xlii).
(2) Fragment (bars 56 to the end) of the song 'Die Sehnsucht', beg. 'Ach, aus dieses Tales Gründen' (op. 39), with pianoforte accompaniment, in score, by [Franz Peter Schubert], [1819]. Autograph. The words are by Johann Cristoph Friedrich von Schiller. The MS. differs somewhat from the versions printed in Breitkopf and Härtel's edition of Schuberts Werke, Serie xx, Lieder, vi, p. 23. It is accompanied by a testimonial (f. 3) to its authenticity by Dr - Vivenot, of Vienna, 1873, and (ff. 6-11) by a printed copy of the song (ed. C. A. Spina, Vienna, 1872). See also O. E. Deutsch, Schubert Thematic Catalogue, 1951, no. 636b. Paper; ff. 9 (viz. 3-11). Small folio. A.D. 1819 and 1872. Note of presentation (f. 4) to Perabo by 'S.W.F.', dated Christmas 1876. Previously [? 1873] belonged to C. A. Spina's Nachfolger (Friedrich Schreiber), music publisher, of Vienna.
(3) Ouverture zu der Oper Genoveva (op. 81), by Robert [Alexander] Schumann, arranged for pianoforte. The printed edition of C. F. Peters, Leipzig, [1850]. With autograph inscription (f. 12) by the composer: 'An E. Wenzel in Freundschaft von R. Schumann. Leipzig, 7 Juni I850'. Paper; ff. 6 (viz. I2-17). Folio. A.D. 1850.
